Strategic Insights for U.S. Embassy Security in the Maldives
Problem Statement
In this capstone project, I had the unique opportunity to work closely with the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Diplomatic Security. The task was to conduct an in-depth analysis and provide recommendations for the construction and security of new U.S. embassies in the Republic of the Maldives. This analysis was aimed at assisting the State Department in making informed decisions around the strategic planning and implementation of diplomatic facilities in a region with complex geopolitical dynamics and environmental challenges.

The centerpiece of this project is a comprehensive memorandum addressed to the Bureau of Diplomatic Security. In it, I explore the viability of Northern Malé as a potential location for a U.S. Embassy. The memo delves into critical factors such as location and infrastructure analysis, embassy size and durability considerations, local community dynamics, construction practices, environmental factors, and security concerns. My findings prioritize cost-effectiveness, safety, and sustainability, emphasizing the need for strategic collaboration with local entities and co-location with the British High Commission.
